San Mateo County Criminal Courthouses

San Mateo County adult court has two criminal courthouses. The main courthouse in Redwood City is located at 400 County Center in downtown Redwood City. The South San Francisco courthouse is located at 1050 Mission Road, a short walk from the South San Francisco Bart station. Since both courthouses hear criminal cases, it can be extremely confusing to determine where your court date will be located. Even when your court date is heard in one location, the location can sometimes change after a certain stage of the case. As a result, many people go to the wrong courthouse and sometimes miss their court dates.

Court Date Location

The location of your court date depends on a number of factors. However, here are two tips to help determine where your court date will be heard so that you go to the correct courthouse.

Odyssey

There is an online portal called "Odyssey" where you can obtain some limited public information about your case. After looking up your case you can see upcoming court dates.

Hearings/Courtroom Listing

The most reliable way to get the location of your court date without consulting with your attorney is to go to the Hearings/Courtroom Listing from the San Mateo Superior Court. This alphabetical list will contain the name and location of all of the cases on calendar for the next day in each courthouse. However, this information is not posted until 7 p.m. the day before your court date. You must refresh the page after 7 p.m. to get an accurate list of the cases on calendar the following day. If you are on the "Northern branch" list then your court date is located in South San Francisco. If your case is on the "Southern branch" list then your case is located in Redwood City.

Consult the Clerk's Office

If you want to call the criminal clerk's office to verify the location of your court date before you go to court, the phone number is (650) 261-5200.

If you are already at the courthouse and are still confused about where to go, you can inquire in person at the criminal clerk's office. At the Northern Courthouse in South San Francisco the window is on your right after you get through the metal detectors. In the Southern Courthouse in Redwood City, the clerk's office is on the 4th Floor.

Consult with Your Attorney

Court date locations can sometimes change at the last minute. Therefore always be sure to check with your attorney about when your next court date will be scheduled and where your court date is located. Always listen to your attorney since they sometimes receive last minute information about court dates being moved.
